Hungkuang University Chinese Language Center’s “Learn Mandarin , Make Mooncakes” Event a Resounding Success
The Hungkuang University Chinese Language Center recently hosted a unique “Learn Mandarin, Make Mooncakes” event, successfully attracting 23 enthusiastic students from Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan, and Lithuania. This event not only allowed foreign students to experience the charm of Chinese culture but also deepened their understanding of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
At the start of the event, students first underwent an hour-long Mandarin language lesson. During this time, they learned about the origins of the Mid-Autumn Festival and related legends, such as Chang’e flying to the moon and Wu Gang chopping the laurel tree. Through this course, students not only improved their Chinese language skills but also developed a keen interest in Chinese culture.
After the lesson, the students proceeded to the culinary department’s professional classroom of the school. Here, under the guidance of teachers, they learned to make traditional mooncakes and Taiwanese specialty pineapple cakes. From selecting ingredients, kneading dough, filling to shaping, every step was filled with joy. Many students mentioned that it was their first time making Chinese pastries by hand, and they enjoyed the process and felt a sense of accomplishment.
After the event concluded, students left with the mooncakes and pineapple cakes they made, their faces beaming with satisfaction and joy. Many students expressed that this event not only provided them with new knowledge and skills but also deepened their appreciation and love for Chinese culture.”
