This means either staying in Taiwan continuously for 6 months or leaving Taiwan once for no more than 30 days within this period, with the actual time in Taiwan totaling 6 months when the days out of the country are excluded.
  • Eligibility for insurance is lost when the validity period of the residence permit expires, and individuals must process their withdrawal from the NHI.

NT$ 826 per month, paid in full (6 mont) at the beginning of each semester during registration.
Note

Principles for Handling National Health Insurance (NHI) Eligibility for Foreign Nationals Entering and Leaving Taiwan:

  • If a foreign national with a valid residence permit plans to leave Taiwan for more than 6 months, they may choose to suspend their NHI coverage according to Articles 37 and 39 of the Enforcement Rules of the National Health Insurance Act. They can reinstate their coverage upon re-entering Taiwan.
  • If a foreign national chooses to continue their NHI coverage, there is no need to apply separately. During the validity period of their residence permit, they can leave Taiwan without restrictions on the number of days abroad. They must continue to pay their insurance premiums. In case of an emergency, illness, or childbirth abroad, they must submit an application for reimbursement of medical expenses within 6 months of receiving treatment. This application should include the original medical receipts, detailed expenses, a medical certificate, and copies of the relevant passport entry and exit records. The application must be submitted to the business group of the NHI office in the insured’s area.
  • If a foreign national suspends their NHI coverage before leaving Taiwan, they cannot reinstate their insurance or apply for reimbursement of medical expenses while abroad. They must wait until they return to Taiwan and reinstate their coverage from the date of return to enjoy NHI benefits. If they wish to travel abroad again after reinstating their coverage, they must reapply to suspend their insurance 3 months after reinstatement.
