【Course】

1. Will there be a placement test before the classes start?

A:Before the course officially starts, we will open the system for students to take an online test. The test mainly includes listening, vocabulary and grammar, reading, and speaking sections. Teachers will arrange classes based on the students’ test results. If the student is a complete beginner in learning Chinese, they can inform us via email to opt-out of the test, and we will place them directly into the beginner class.

 

【Visa and Residence Permit】

1.What types of visas are available for Taiwan?

A : 14-day visa-free; 30-day, 60-day, 90-day tourist visas; 180-day residence visa. There are also single-entry, multiple-entry, extendable, and non-extendable visas (NE). Students should be mindful of these details.

2. How do I apply for a residence permit? Where do I do it?

A : Students coming to Taiwan with a tourist visa and studying at a Ministry of Education-approved Chinese language center for four months, and continuing to register for more than three months should apply for a residence permit online through the “Foreign and Overseas Chinese Students Residence Permit and Extension or Change of Registration Online Application System” at the National Immigration Agency.

3. What documents are needed to apply for a residence permit?

【Dormitory】

1. Can everyone apply for a dormitory?

A : According to our school regulations, dormitory applications must wait until undergraduate students have applied. Any remaining dormitories will then be open for international students to register. Therefore, applicants should apply for a reserved bed with the Chinese Language Center office during registration. If the application is canceled for personal reasons, the full fee will still be charged.

2. What facilities are available in the dormitory? How do I use the kitchen?

A : The dormitory includes wardrobes and desks and has shared bathroom facilities, but no kitchen. Cooking is not allowed in the dormitory. Students with dietary needs can purchase food at the student cafeteria and convenience stores.

【Campus Internet Use】

1. Where can I use a computer?

A : Our school provides wireless internet service. In the wireless network coverage area, you can use your HK student account to log in and enjoy the convenience of wireless internet.

2. Can I print using the computers at the Chinese Language Center?

A : If you need to print, please go to the Moore Bookstore on B2 of Building L. The center does not provide printing services.。

4. How can I find out my HK student account?

A:Please inquire at the office.

 

【Insurance】

1. What insurance is available in Taiwan? How much is the insurance fee?

A : National Health Insurance (NHI) costs NT$826 per month.

2. What are the procedures for seeing a doctor?

A :If you have National Health Insurance, you can present your NHI card and pay the registration fee when seeing a doctor. After receiving the receipt and diagnosis certificate, send them back to the insurance company for reimbursement. If you have National Health Insurance status, just present your NHI card when seeing a doctor.

3. What should I do if an accident (car accident, illness, etc.) happens on or off-campus?

A :During office hours (8:00 am to 5:00 pm), you can contact the Chinese Language Center office at 04-26318652#2661, #2668, #2669. Outside office hours, you can contact the campus security center at 04-26338000 (24hr).

 

【Student ID Card】

1.What should I do if I lose my student ID card?

A:You can apply for a new student ID card at the office and pay a fee of NT$200.

2.What are the other functions of the student ID card?

A:Dormitory residents need to use their student ID card to enter the dormitory or borrow books from the library. If it is an EasyCard student ID, after topping up (which can be done at convenience stores like 7-11), you can use it for buses and MRT and make purchases at various partner stores.

3.What should I do if I want to get a refund for the remaining balance on my student ID card when I return to my country?

A:You can get a refund at the EasyCard Service Center commissioned by Taichung Bus Company (No. 235, Minquan Road, West District, Taichung City).。
